THIS MAGNIFICENT HAND MADE CROSS HAS A CAST ORNAMENTAL RELIEF DESIGN, WITH FINELY ENGRAVED DECORATION ON THE BACK SIDE.
IT HAS A CENTRAL LARGER TEAR DROP FLAT CUT EMERALD, AND SURROUNDING IT HAS
7 TABLE CUT SMALLER RECTANGULAR EMERALDS OF VARYING SIZE, TWO TRIANGULAR FLAT CUT EMERALDS ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT CROSS-ARMS.
THE UNIQUE DESIGN OF THE CROSS IS A REPRESENTATION OF AN ORNATE TWO-HANDLED RENAISSANCE VASE OR URN WITH A
GROTESQUE
IN THE FORM OF A HUMAN FACE OR MASK, WITH STYLIZED FOLIATE BRANCHES EMANATING FROM THE URN, AND SET WITH THE EMERALDS AS FLOWERS OR BUDS.
THE CROSS IS SUSPENDED FROM AN EXPERTLY CRAFTED LATER PERIOD GOLD BALE WITH CHISELED FLOWER DESIGN AND BEADING.
